The Tale of Benjamin Bunny

If you want to read a tale that includes corpoaral punishment then Beatrix Potter (1903) The Tale of Benjamin Bunny, is the story for you! In this tale elder Benjamin Bunny Sr. whips his son Benjamin Jr. and Peter Rabbit for being in Mr. McGregor’s garden. The two rabbits went there to retrieve the shoes and coat Peter Rabbit lost, while running for his life.

This tale is also another one of Potter’s beautifully illustrated pastel paintings. Through her words and drawings, the reader is taken directly into her world; the village of Sawrey, her Hilltop Farm, and the lives of animals (Messer, 1968). This picture book’s intended audience are grades k-4.

To be honest I chose this book for the purpose of this book-a-day challenge. The most unique thing about Potter’s books is that she integrates characters from her previous stories in each of her new tales. For example, in this story, the life of Peter Rabbit is interwoven into this tale about Benjamin Bunny.

I would recommend this book to any teacher who wants to integrate a lesson on consequences with there language arts lesson plan.
